Program Areas
QHP collaborates with the Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service and other counterparts at the national, regional, district and sub-district levels. QHP supports strengthening of the service deliver and policy frameworks. guidelines. Specific areas of training and program concentration include (click on a topic to read more): - Child Survival - QHP supports IMCI training for hospital and health centre workers, supports review of policy documents and training materials.
- Family Planning and Sexual and Reproductive Health - QHP supports equipment and training needs in order to increase contraceptive prevalance and improve quality.
- Safe Motherhood - Training for midwives in life saving skills, support for the nurses and midwives council in development of a national training curriculum and support for new policies.
- HIV and AIDS - QHP is part of a group of organizations helping to improve the quality of the continuum of care for HIV positive persons in Ghana, especially related to the initiation of Anti-Retroviral Therapy.
- Quality Assurance Methods and COPE - Improving quality is a continuous process and COPE and Facilitative Supervision training provide supervisors with simple tools to improve their management practices.
- Infection Prevention - QHP supports infection prevention training for facilities to improve infection and uses a "Whole Site" training approach.
- Pre-Service and In-Service Training Support - QHP supports equipment for pre-service training centres and has supported the development of an in-service training policy.
- Human Resources for Health - Technical Assistance - QHP's support has focused on supporting the development of a performance appraisal system and establishing a benchmarking process for assessing the quality of HR services.
- Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response improves the ability of facilities to collect and use data to plan for public health emergencies. It also improves the overall health data collection process.
- Avian Flu Preparedness has been an area where QHP supports the Ministry of Veterinary Affairs.
During the first year QHP and GHS completed several baseline surveys, including a facility baseline assessment (FBA) of public and private facilities in 30 target districts, an assessment of human resource management resources and systems, a referral pilot baseline and an equipment and minor renovation assessment. The results of these surveys are helping to guide QHP strategies and plans, and targeting of technical assistance and other resources.
A market demand study for a possible franchising network has been completed during the first quarter of 2006.
