QHP Enline Assessment September 2009 (PDF File 495 KB)

Following five years of implementation, this endline assessment was undertaken to measure the effect of QHP’s work by comparing results with baseline and midterm assessments carried out in December 2004 and September 2007 respectively. The results presented in this report represent data from a census of all QHP target facilities (about 200 mostly public health facilities), using a facility audit tool that examined the status of services in the facilities, observation tool that ascertained how sick children under five years are managed and RHMT/ DHMT tools that sought information from the Regional and District Health Management Teams on their supportive and supervision roles in their respective regions and districts.

 

Condom Study Endline Analysis 2009 (PDF File KB)

The endline data analysis for this study examining the feasibility and impact of routine condom provision to ART clients in Ghana has two objectives. The first is to compare rates of self-reported condom use among HIV positive clients who receive free condoms when accessing clinical care with rates of self-reported condom use among HIV positive clients accessing clinical care in facilities where condoms are not provided to clients for free. The second is to estimate the number of infections averted through increased condom use as a result of both health education sessions and free condom distributions.

Since 2004, Quality Health Partners has been supporting the GHS to implement strategies to improve the quality of health and ensure equitable access by the population to a package of Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) services. For Family Planning (FP), this has been done largely through the training of health workers in sexual and reproductive health counseling, FP methods and cross-cutting topics such as infection prevention, quality assurance and facilitative supervision, including some direct support for supervision visits. In addition, QHP has provided some equipment to facilities in the 37 target districts as well as the regional hospitals. Despite these significant investments, CYP and CPR have been stagnant for a greater part of the period, and even dropped in some parts of the country.

 

HIP Assessment August 2009 (PDF File 492 KB)

To complement the government’s efforts in addressing the needs of HIV patients, QHP in collaboration with SHARP, NACP and with funding from the President’s Emergency Plan for HIV/AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) initiated the High Impact Package (HIP) program. Launched in June 2006, HIP activities support the provision of a continuum of care (including antiretroviral therapy) for PLHIVs at selected health facilities.

 

A Rapid Appraisal of HIV-related Stigma and Discrimination Reduction Interventions January 2009 (PDF File 210 KB)

This report provides details the rapid appraisal of QHP's intervention to reduce HIV and AIDS stigma at hospitals in Ghana. The rapid appraisal is based on a sample of six QHP supported high-impact package (HIP) hospitals and clients using their services for evidence of prevalence of stigma and discriminatory attitudes and practices among staff, and the of the effectiveness of the HIP training in reducing stigma and discrimination.

  

Malaria Health Facility Survey Summary Report July 2008 (PDF File 908 KB)

This summary report covers a study that: 1) Described the availability, functioning and quality of health and malaria treatment services in Ghana by assessing the quality of malaria case management for patients 2) Assessed the preparedness of health facilities to manage malaria and childhood illness, and 3) Assessed the proportion of health workers who are treating malaria appropriately and have knowledge of the current protocols.

 

Progress Towards Improved Quality of Reproductive and Child Health Services in 30 Districts in Ghana - Midterm Assessment Results (PDF File 460 KB)

This report is the final draft of the midterm assessment of the Quality Health Partners Project.  The report documents substantial achievement in many areas in Child Health, Delivery Services and Family Planning.  The successful replication of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response program is also highlighted.

 

Social Franchising of Reproductive and Child Health Services in Ghana: A Market Demand Study (PDF File, 250KB)

 
This report describes key findings from a market study of the feasibility of a social franchising approach to reproductive and child health services (RCH) in selected districts in Ghana. Specifically, this report, explores the potential of attracting the active engagement and participation of practicing private health care service providers, especially medical doctors and midwives, in the provision of quality and affordable RCH services in selected districts of Ghana. It also determines the levels of understanding and awareness of the target market (potential clients for franchised RCH services) of the franchise concept in terms of desired services, motivations for service patronage, and expectations for a franchising program.

This report describes the context of the Child Health Record review in Ghana, the technical approaches used by QHP and its partners and the results.  The review of Child Health Record was initiated due to a change in the malaria treatment policy nationwide, but was a comprehensive review of the document.

 

Facility Baseline Assessment Final Report (1,825 KB, PDF File)

 

This document is a comprehensive analysis of all target facilities in 30 target districts in the seven southern regions of Ghana, as well as all 10 regional hospitals. The assessment was conducted in December 2004, and provides information on general management, facilities, quality assurance programs, IMCI, Family Planning, Safe Motherhood (including ANC, Delivery and Neonatal Care), STIs, HIV/AIDS and Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR). In 2007 a mid-term assessment is also planned. (Also see the section on QHP Presentations.)

Human Resources Baseline Assessment Final (1,068 KB, PDF File)

 
This document provides an analysis of the status of human resources management in the Ghana health system, focusing on both Ministry of Health level policy and implementation and facility level outcomes. The assessment covered all 10 regions of Ghana and was conducted in December 2004. (Also see the section on QHP Presentations)

 

Performance Appraisal Evaluation Report (219 KB, PDF File)

 
QHP in cooperation with the Ghana Health Services and with technical assistance from Initiatives Inc. conducted a review of the performance appraisal system within the Ghana Health Service in October 2005. This report presents the findings and recommendations from that assessment and serves as the key document for an on-going pilot of an improved appraisal system.

 

Referral Systems Baseline Assessment (169 KB, PDF File)

 
Effective referral systems between facilities and within facilities are key to quality. This assessment looked at the status of referral systems in selected districts of Greater Accra and Central Region and serves the basis for an on-going pilot project to improve referral systems in these facilities.

 

Integrating Family Planning Counseling and Services into HIV Care and Treatment Services in Ghana (858 KB, PDF File)

 
This performance needs assessment (PNA) was conducted in collaboration with the ACQUIRE project, the Ghana Health Service and Family Health International. The PNA determined the status of family planning services in Anti-Retroviral Therapy Clinics, the skill of health workers to provide family planning services to these clients and the needs of the health workers and facilities to be able to provide quality family planning services that are accessible and acceptable to clients who are using ART services.

This report provided an initial analysis of factors related to a possible franchising approach for a package of reproductive and child health services in Ghana. The report documents the results of a stakeholder meeting and provides recommendations from two QHP consultants.

This report provides an in-depth analysis of the availability of communications materials in target facilities in the 28 districts of the seven southern regions of Ghana, including family planning, sexually transmitted infections and child health education materials. There is also a section on the availability of Voluntary Counselling and Testing services in the target facilities.

 

Improving Access and Quality of Clinical Family Planning Services (556 KB, PDF File)
